With summer finally here Minnesota chefs is going to be creating new menus and new delights using fresh ingredients and cooking methods tailor made for a summer afternoon. Clean Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables With this local mega supermarkets providing fresh fruits and veggies in the lifeless of winter, we have gotten used to have clean produce whenever we want it. But nothing compares to those first local crops of berries, melons, and tomato plants. The colors are brighter. The flavor is more powerful. Nothing against growers in Chile, but we'll take produce from our local farmers every day. Grilling and Bbq'ing True barbeque fanatics will knock the snow off the barbeque grill or smoker to find the foods they desire all year round. Most of us, however, wait until the lengthy days of summer to use the aprons, get the grill tools and head out towards the back deck. The smoky, sweet taste of burgers, meats, and ribs fresh from the grill is a taste worth awaiting. Picnics The company picnic. The college picnic. The family reunion. Summer provides many excuses to package deal up your favorite have a picnic foods and a gallon of iced tea and head out to the park. Fried poultry, hot dogs, finger sandwiches, and fruit alllow for quick packing and fun eating. Eating Out/Road Trips When the summer time sun hits us, we seem to have a necessity to hit the road. Weekend break road trips, evening drives, and family holidays get us on the highway and off to our favorite locations. Homogenized fast food places appear to be the rule for eating venues, such as the let their big flashy signs fool you. There are still plenty of locally owned restaurants serving quality home-made meals along the street side to give every trip a unique meals experience. Cold Salads A cup of soup and a sandwich may work well between October and could, but summertime is the time for your favorite chilly salads. Potato and macaroni salad, vegetable medleys, three-bean greens, even the venerable garden salad can be a light as well as flavorful side for just about any entree.
